Stack Attack

ArcadeAbstractTiming

Cowboy builders figured out they could raise a tower in record time without scaffolding, or even cement - just yeet the next block when it looks about right and the overhang is someone else's problem.

Travelling between floors is somewhat difficult, as the elevators don't quite line up, but people soon got the hang of free climbing.

As a plus, health and fitness (of those that survive) is through the roof, and the city's skyline is the most interesting it's ever been.

Game overview

Stack Attack is a one-tap stacking arcade game where a block swings above your tower and you decide the exact moment to drop it. Land it on the platform below and you climb. Whatever hangs off gets sliced away, so the next floor has less room to work with. Keep stacking for a full minute - or until there's nothing left to land on.

You've got 60 seconds. Every clean drop adds height and score. Drop with no overlap at all and the run's over early.

The swing starts friendly and gets quicker as the tower rises. What felt like an easy centre tap on floor three becomes a proper timing test by floor twenty. If you like games where it's possible to do the impossible and turn your tower into a needle, this one's built for that itch.

How to play

Each run of Stack Attack starts with a foundation and a moving block overhead. Tap when the swing looks right, drop the block onto the stack, and keep going. Perfect placements keep the full width and grow a combo. Survive the 60-second timer without losing the platform entirely.

  • Tap to drop the moving block. Timing is critical
  • Any part that overhangs the block below is cut off.
  • Build the tallest stack you can!
  • Perfect placements earn bonus points.

Why players like it

Stack Attack does that rare arcade thing where the rule fits in a sentence and the skill still has somewhere to grow. Tap, drop, watch the overhang fall away - you understand the loop before the first level's finished. Then the swing speeds up, or starts spinning, and easily just became devilishly tricky.

Perfects are the addictive bit. There's something sweet about having a block land flush and the combo ticking up. Miss and you're still alive - depending on how much you miss by.

When your tower starts becoming thinner, and there's nothing left but a sliver to build on, and you nail it anyway... perfect becomes perfection.

And because every run is only a minute, the stakes stay light. You'll chase one more attempt because you can still feel the near-perfect drop you botched on the last floor. That leftover itch is half the charm.

Tips and strategy

Height helps, but width and combos decide how long you stay in the game.

  • Perfects are how you last. Each flush drop keeps the full platform for the next block and keeps the combo alive. Chase those line-ups early so you're not stuck balancing on a postage stamp by mid-run.
  • When the swing gets quicker, lead the block a little. Don't wait until you see perfect alignment and then tap - by then you've already missed the centre. Anticipate where it's heading and commit a beat early.
  • Take your time. Rushing every drop is how stacks get thin for no reason. A half-second of patience on a slow swing pays off later.
  • Watch the platform you're aiming for, not the moving block. Your eye should sit on the edges you're trying to match - that's the real target.
  • A slightly imperfect drop that keeps most of the width is often better than gambling for a perfect when the swing is already flying. Survive first, combo second.

FAQ

How does a run end?

Two ways. The 60-second timer hits zero, or you drop a block with no overlap on the platform below - there's nothing left to build on, so the run stops there. A partial overlap still counts as a placement (with the overhang cut off); a total miss is the early exit.

How does scoring work?

Every placed block earns points. You get a base amount, more as the tower gets taller, and even more when the block you kept is still wide. Perfect placements grow a combo that multiplies what those drops are worth. Miss a perfect and the combo resets, even if the block still landed. Surviving longer with a wide stack and a live combo is how the totals climb.

What counts as a perfect?

A perfect is a drop lined up clean with the block below - centres matching so the new floor keeps the full width. When that happens, the combo ticks up and you don't lose any platform to the slice. Close enough gets snapped into place; if it wasn't clean, you'll see the overhang fall away and the combo go with it.
