Gem Slice

ArcadeNinjaReflex

Somewhere under the arena a vault door is open and the gems are flying. Not falling - flying. Someone is tossing them up by the fistful, and the only tool you've got is a blade made of light.

Every gem you split clean is yours. Every bomb you clip blows a hole in your score. And the clock doesn't care how pretty your last combo was.

Sixty seconds. Swipe fast, cut clean, keep the streak alive.

Controls

Computer

Game overview

Gem Slice is a swipe-to-slice arcade game with one rule that matters: the faster and cleaner you cut, the bigger the number. Gems are hurled up from the bottom of the screen, hang in the air for a heartbeat, and drop back out of view. Your finger (or your mouse) is the blade.

You've got 60 seconds and no lives to lose. Slice a gem and it's points. Slice it through the middle and it's more points. Slice three or more in a single swipe and a combo bonus lands on top. Chain gem after gem without a miss and a streak multiplier quietly grows underneath everything.

Then there are the bombs. Black, round, fuse lit. Cut one and you lose points and your streak. Miss a gem and the streak goes too. Everything else is just you, a flurry of gems, and how steady your hand is.

How to play

Every run of Gem Slice is a full minute of gems thrown at the screen, in waves that get faster and denser as the timer ticks down.

  • Gems are thrown up from the bottom of the screen.
  • Swipe through a gem to slice it. Cut close to the centre for a precision bonus.
  • Slice several gems in one swipe for a combo, and keep the streak alive for a multiplier.
  • Slicing a bomb costs points and resets your streak. Missing a gem resets it too.

Why players like it

Gem Slice is instant. There's nothing to learn beyond "swipe through the shiny thing", and yet the first time you clip a bomb in the middle of a beautiful combo you'll understand exactly what the game is really about.

It rewards the small stuff: cutting through the centre instead of the edge, holding a streak through a busy wave, spotting four gems arcing together and taking them all in one line. Two players who slice the same gems can end up with very different scores.

And it's short. A minute is long enough to feel a run go right, and short enough that going again is never a question.

Tips and strategy

Once your swipes land where you want them, these are the habits that turn a decent minute into a leaderboard one.

  • Aim through the centre of each gem. The precision bonus is worth more than half a common gem on its own, and it adds up over sixty seconds.
  • Wait for gems to bunch up near the top of their arc, then take them in one swipe. Combos of three or more pay a bonus that grows fast with the size of the group.
  • Diamonds are rare and worth six times a common gem. Drop everything to get one, even if it means breaking a combo line.
  • Bombs are at their worst hidden inside a cluster. Cut around them, or let the whole group fall rather than lose your streak.
  • The streak multiplier climbs every five gems in a row. Late in the run, with the multiplier high, a missed gem hurts far more than it did in the first ten seconds.

FAQ

How does a run end?

A run lasts 60 seconds and always goes the full minute. Bombs and missed gems cost you points and your streak, but they never end the run early.

What happens when I slice a bomb?

You lose a fixed number of points (your score never drops below zero), your streak resets, and any combo you were building in that swipe is cancelled.

How do combos work?

Every gem you slice within the same swipe, inside a short window, counts towards one group. Close the group with three or more gems and you earn a combo bonus that scales with the size of the group.

What is the streak multiplier?

Slicing gems without missing any and without hitting a bomb builds a streak. Every five gems in a row raise the multiplier one step, up to double points. A miss or a bomb sends it back to the start.

Is it luck or skill?

Each run has its own fixed sequence of throws, so the same run always plays out the same way. Your score depends on where and how cleanly you cut, not on what the game decided to throw at you.
